Despite what the name may lead you to believe, there is more to Destruction Derby than destruction alone. There are 4 different play modes available, Destruction Derby, Stock Car Racing, Wreckin' Racing, and Time Trial. The Destruction Derby mode kind of speaks for itself. Playing in an arena called ‘The Bowl' you play classic demolition derby style and try to destroy as many of your opponents as you can. Stock Car Racing mode is all about taking home the first place spot and destruction plays no part in it. Wreckin' Racing mode is a mixture of the Destruction and Stock Car modes, and you can gain points from taking out your opponents and taking first place. Damage to your car can make winning the race harder as it can affect your speed, handling, or even overheat your engine. Time Trial Mode is a solo play mode where you try to beat the best track time.
Destruction Derby took home good scores with critics and fans alike on most platforms. If you're looking for a fun, yet simple game to just pick up and play, here you go. I wouldn't say it's for anyone looking for a completely serious race, but perfect to cause destruction and enjoy yourself.
